Google Site Map Help

What do the URL, Change Frequency and Priority settings mean? See our Google site map help section definitions below for more information.

URL

The URL setting is simply the web address of the page you want to add to your site map. Start with your homepage by entering something like, "http://www.yourdomain.com". Once you've added your homepage to your Google site map, add each of the other pages of your site (eg. http://www.yourdomain.com/about.html").

Change Frequency

The Change Frequency setting is an estimate of how often you think you'll change or update the URL you are currently adding. If you are adding your homepage to your XML site map and the content changes every day, select "Daily" from the change frequency list. If you are inputting your Terms of Use page or another page that you edit rarely, choose the "Yearly" setting.

Priority

The Priority setting allows you to rank the importance of the current page you are adding in relation to the other pages in your Google site map. It DOES NOT give your web pages any advantage over pages on other websites.

If your homepage is the most important page of your site, give it the highest Priority setting of "1.0". Other pages on your website that describe your products or services may also be very important to you. Assign these URLs a "0.9" or "0.8" value. Web pages that are the least important to you can receive a "0.5" or less.
